So we're a little over 25 days into my 50 day project to turn THE WRITTEN into a graphic novel, and we've managed to break the £4000 mark. Myself and artist Mike could not be happier, nor could we be more excited. We’re really confident that we can push this project that little bit further in the next 25 days. This graphic novel needs to be made, stat!
Because we’ve reached the halfway, we've decided to shake things up a bit by adding a few little things:
First off, we've added another 10 of the special Farden keyrings to the £22 ‘EARLY-BIRD MAGES BUNDLE’ pledge, as those sold out pretty damn quickly. I'm sure we can rustle up a few more. It would be unfair if we didn't. So, if that’s what you wanted to get, but couldn’t then good news - they’re back on. Rejoice.
Secondly, we've created another pledge level. You might have noticed it down at the bottom of the project page already if you’ve had a look recently. For £500, we're offering everything from the £300 ‘DAEMON’S DANGLIES’ package, and have added:
- a custom tshirt or hoodie, designed with artwork from the graphic novel and made to your specifications.
- an interview with you on this very blog here on the website.
exclusive, and I mean exclusive, hardcover copies of both Dead Stars Part 1 and 2, the final books of the Emaneska Series, 6 months before they hit the shelves (in hardcover that is). These will be signed, and will go nicely with the hardback copies of The Written and Pale Kings that already come with the £300 package. That's a whole hardback set, worth almost a £100. Hold yourselves back.
So! Let's hope we can raise that last £1000, and even go beyond that to hit the stretch goals. Once again, please share the news and this update. Simply past this link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/emaneska/emaneska-the-first-graphic-novel on your Facebook profiles and Twitter feeds with something like "Check out this epic project I backed on Kickstarter!" or "Want to have your face in a brand new graphic novel? Have a look!" You get the picture :)
If you missed it, I was also featured on two prestigious blogs this week, in celebration of the halfway point. The first to feature me and the Kickstarter project was the great author Mark Lawrence, author of the Broken Empire Trilogy (Prince of Thorns, King of Thorns, etc). I talk about the reasons behind the Kickstarter, and the idea/perils/joys of crowd-funding. Artist Mike was also kind enough to do a little picture of Mark’s main character Jorg as well, which is worth a look. You can read that here:
Secondly, I was featured on the popular review blog Civilian Reader. I discuss the whole idea of turning fantasy books into graphic novels, whether it should happen, and the reasons authors like myself and others are so eager to do it. You can find that badboy here: http://civilian-reader.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/guest-post-fantasy-in-colour-by-ben.html
My thanks again to those who have already pledged, and here's to another great 25 days. And counting.
Ben (and Mike!)
