It gives me great pleasure to announce the imminent arrival of my newest book! Shelf Help – The Pocket Guide To Self-Publishing will be hitting the stores at the end of February 2014.
This Shelf Help guide is the culmination of several months of very hard work indeed. I’ve been working on this title since last summer (much to the disgust of my fantasy fans, I’m sure… “a non-fiction book? No dragons?! How dare he?!”) and I have to say I’m immensely proud of it.
While my love will always lie with fantasy and the stranger side of fiction, moving Shelf Help from a blog into a full-on book has always been on the to-do list. And now is the perfect time to get it done - if there’s one thing that ShelfHelp.info and time spent working with fellow authors has taught me, it’s that top-quality, honest advice is still in very high demand. Shelf Help is not only my first full-length guide and non-fiction title, but it's also my attempt at meeting this demand, hopefully once and for all. That's why I've poured everything I know into it. Every tip, every trick... the whole caboodle. If you're an upcoming author then I'm very sure you'll enjoy it.
So what is this new book all about?
Well as you may have guessed from the title, Shelf Help is a comprehensive step by step guide to publishing books the DIY way – keeping all your rights, royalties, and creative control. Covering everything between manuscript and royalty cheque, Shelf Help demystifies the concept of self-publishing and explains each and every aspect in great detail. It will help you publish on a global scale, in both eBook and print, without even leaving your house. No only that, but at the same time Shelf Help will show you how to keep it cheap, professional, and digital. No matter what sort of author you are, or what stage of your career you’re in, Shelf Help will have something for you.
What exactly does Shelf Help cover?
As much as humanly possible. The guide is build around five major sections. The first introduces you to the industry, explaining the history of book publishing and its recent digital revolution. Then we continue with Polish It – preparing your book for publishing with editing, beta readers, cover design, and formatting. Then in the Publish It section I cover every aspect of eBook and print publishing, showing you how to publish your book cheaply, professionally, and globally. The Promote It section tells you all you need to know about marketing books – from social media to websites, paid advertising, blog tours, reviews, signings, and merchandise. And lastly, Shelf Help also contains interviews with fellow authors and self-publishing gurus Hugh Howey, Polly Courtney, and Joanna Penn, as well as a handy glossary and useful links. All in all, it covers quite a lot! Hence my pride.
So when’s it out?
The answer to that is the 28th of February. The eBook will be available for pre-order via Kobo by Monday the 17th, and the paperback edition will be out by the end of this month on all major stores! How exciting is that?!
How can I help publicise the launch?
