What am I up to?

March 18, 2014

Right! Time for a little update, methinks.

There are two things to tell you about today - first, the paperback release of Shelf Help - The Pocket Guide to Self-Publishing, and secondly, an update on The Written graphic novel. Shelf Help’s up first.

I released the eBook edition of Shelf Help on February 28th and I'm pleased to say it's doing very well for itself at the stores. Now it's time to release the paperback edition, so I’ve spent the last week finalising all the last aspects and examining the proof (picture above!) to make sure the guide is as close to perfect as I can get it. It’s pretty much there now, so I’ll be going back to my POD printers in the next few days and clicking that big old “unleash” button. (They really should have a button for that… Ingram, if you’re reading?).

It will then take a few days to filter out to the stores, but essentially, Shelf Help will be available to buy in paperback from your favourite store (both online and physical) at the end of March. Exciting stuff.

So if you’re an aspiring author looking to self-publish, this book is perfect for you. In fact, it was pretty much written for you. Go grab an eBook copy now, or keep your eyes peeled for the paperback at the end of the month! There was also a little sneaky snippet in last month’s blog.

Now, onto the graphic novel.

For those of you who may not be aware of what I’m up to, I ran a successful Kickstarter project last year to turn my fantasy novel The Written into a graphic novel. Just over a year on, and it’s looking really good, but my my, it’s been SUCH hard work. Especially for our good ole artist Mike.

The fantastic news I want to share today is that we’ve now got less than a dozen pages to draw, and then it’s straight onto the next stages of polishing and publishing. So when can you be expecting to see it on the shelves? Hopefully in about two months’ time. I really can’t wait to see it come together. Releasing a graphic novel has always been a dream of mine, so it’s so pleasing to be on the home straight.

It’s also really great to be releasing two major books so close together, and so early in the year too. 2014 is only just starting and it’s been publishing central for this author already! Good to be focusing more on books as well. As I said in a blog a few weeks ago - I’m an author first and foremost!

Before I toddle off, here’s some more great news - artist Mike, who for the last 8 years has lived in the wilds of China, has now moved back in the UK! What this means for you guys is that I'll be heading up to Wales very soon to meet him for the very first time. I’ll be making a few BenCasts about it in the coming weeks. Just have to find some time to head up to Wales first. Gives me an excuse to go climb some mountains at the very least.

If you’d like to see some of the latest artwork, then you can find it on Kickstarter. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think in the comments box below or on Facebook/Twitter.

As always, don’t forget to help me spread the word about both Shelf Help and The Written graphic novel. Every little helps for us indie authors. Tweet me, Like me, email me, tell a friend, whatever you like. It’s always great to connect with new people :) Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to get back to attacking my to-do list. Onwards and upwards, as always!
